Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud has stated that there is no immediate need to evacuate Nepali workers from Gulf countries experiencing conflict. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Minister Saud addressed rising concerns among the Nepali diaspora regarding the safety of Nepali citizens working in the region, particularly in light of escalating tensions.

Minister Saud clarified that the government is closely monitoring the situation in the Gulf, specifically the areas impacted by ongoing conflicts. He emphasized that the Nepali embassies in the concerned countries are actively assessing the safety of Nepali nationals and providing support where needed. The minister acknowledged the apprehension of many Nepali workers and families but reassured them that contingency plans are in place to address any potential escalations.

The Foreign Minister's statement comes amidst a backdrop of increasing geopolitical instability in the Middle East. The ongoing conflicts, involving various regional and international actors, have heightened anxieties among the large Nepali workforce employed in several Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Thousands of Nepalis work in these countries, contributing significantly to Nepal's foreign remittances, making their safety a primary concern for the Nepal government.

Saud further indicated that the government is in constant communication with international organizations and diplomatic missions to stay updated on the evolving security situation. He highlighted the government's preparedness to provide necessary consular services and assistance to Nepali citizens should the situation deteriorate. The Ministry is also requesting that Nepali citizens in the affected areas follow all local safety guidelines and remain in contact with their respective embassies.

The Nepal government has a history of repatriating its citizens during times of crisis. The 2015 Yemen conflict saw the evacuation of hundreds of Nepali workers. The current assessment of the situation, as stated by the Foreign Minister, suggests that the situation in the Gulf, while concerning, does not warrant similar action at this moment. The focus is currently on proactive monitoring and preparedness.

For the Nepali diaspora community, these reassurances from the Foreign Minister will hopefully alleviate some immediate worries. Many Nepalis abroad have family members working in the Gulf region, and any instability in the area directly impacts their livelihoods. This news provides crucial information for assessing the current level of risk and acting appropriately, whilst waiting for further information.
